In 2012, the City of Houston received a grant to add sustainable features to the Houston Permitting Center from the US Department of Energy's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Here, three types of solar voltaic systems are installed on the roof of the building. These panels produce 3% of the building's annual energy consumption, enough to power nine 2,000-square-foot homes for a year! Learn more about solar panels and other environmentally-friendly building practices by visiting the Green Building Resource Center on the first floor of the permitting center.
