Response to Rising COVID Cases

Due to rising COVID cases in the Houston area, the Houston Permitting Center will resume appointment only services effective Monday, July 6. Walk-in service is allowed only for:

  • Payments at the cashier
  • Identity Verification (Houston Police Department)
  • Fire Prevention Permits (Houston Fire Department)
  • Administration and Regulatory Affairs services

We encourage all customers to stay home and use our online systems. Live chat agents are available to assist you through the online process.

Schedule appointments directly with your assigned plan analyst or engineer to discuss plan comments and other plan review issues. Contact information is provided in the plan comments in ProjectDox.

For Taps & Meters and Impact Fee Administration, schedule an appointment by phone or email through supervisors and managers of each section.  


Gaining Entry

Access to the building will be limited. Customers must show proof of an appointment or a valid sales order to enter the building.

Additionally, customers will be screened according to Administrative Policy 3-39. Any person over 2 years of age, including customers, employees and contractors, must pass a temperature check and wear a face covering while inside the building.



Update for July 15: Cashiering services will re-open on Friday, July 17 with regular hours from 8 am to 5 pm. Thank you for your understanding and patience. 

Update for July 10: Based on additional guidance, the cashiers will be closed on July 10 and will remain closed until further notice. Please use our online services to complete your transactions, if available. We will continue to accept mailed payments but processing may be delayed. 

Update for July 7: Cashiering services will re-open on Wednesday, July 8. Please continue to use our online services, if available.

Update for July 6: Due to extenuating circumstances, cashiering services are unavailable today. Please use our online services to complete your transactions. 

Online payment is not available for Identity Verification, Auto Dealers, new fire prevention permits, after-hours fire plan check, and temporary and stand-by fire permits. We will continue to accept mailed payments for these services.
