All apartment communities with 3 or more units are required to register with the City of Houston for Habitability Inspection purposes.

Registration must be kept on premises and visible to the public.
Registration must list the current owner, phone number and appraisal district information.
The preparer of the registration form will need access to the following documents and information:
- City of Houston Certificate of Occupancy or Life Safety Appendix Compliance Certificate issued to property (one for each building)
- Property tax account number for the applicable taxing authority
- Year the property was built
- Name, address, phone number, and email address for the following:
- Owner
- Registered agent (if applicable)
- Manager and management company (if applicable)
- Visit the Multi-Family Website and click on the Register button.
- Answer the qualification questions.
- Select the Click Here to Start the Registration Process button.
Once an application is received and approved, you will receive an email with a link to print your certificate.

2. Mail the completed form to:

Registration is not required for single-family residences such as condominiums.
If there is a change of ownership and the property was previously registered, registration can be updated.
