About

Any person owning, operating or causing to be operated any food establishment or food preparation must have in his possession a valid and current food service manager's certification issued to him by the department. This certificate is acquired by registering for and attending a one-day class provided in several languages by HHD

After Approval

This Certificate shall be posted in view of the public in the establishment where the certified person is employed. This certification shall be in the form of an identification card This card shall be on the holder's person as proof of certification at all times while on duty.

What You Need

The City of Houston Food Ordinance requires the presence of a food service manager(s) in food establishments during all stages of operation.

Students completing the course and passing the examination with a score of 70 points or above, receive a certificate, valid for 5 years. The City of Houston Food Service Manager's Certificate is valid only in the City of Houston.

Check your Jurisdiction's requirements before registering for class. The City of Houston provides a 1 day course and optional exam in lieu of class is available. Reservations are required for all classes, including the optional exam session. Class size is limited.

Complete the online registration form and select a preferred class date.

Once you have confirmed your reservation online, an invoice will be sent to you within 2 business days via email. Payment must be received no later than 7 days before the scheduled class date by mail or 2 days before the class if you make the payment in person or online.

Make sure you include the account and invoice numbers to complete the online transaction.
