About

Senior Citizen Sterilized Pet License means senior citizens 60 years of age or older shall obtain a sterilized pet license for each sterilized dog or cat for an initial license fee and the regular payment of a renewal fee.

After Approval

License tags are required to be worn by the animal at all times.

Conditions & Exceptions

All provided documentation must be current or license will not be issued.

What You Need
  • Current rabies vaccination certificate signed by a veterinarian 
  • Other clear and convincing evidence that the animal has been spayed or neutered, if not reflected on rabies certificate
  • Proof the owner lives within the City of Houston jurisdiction
  • Current government-issued photo ID with proof of age
  • Method of payment: cash (in person only), check, cashier's check, money order or credit card (online only)

  1. Log in or start a new registration
  2. Complete or update all person and animal information
  3. Upload required documents in .jpg format
  4. Submit license fees - Credit cards accepted are MasterCard, Visa, and Discover
  5. Receive email receipt confirming purchase

License will be issued once all is completed.

Please send copies of your paperwork and retain the originals for your records. Copies will not be returned with your license receipt.

What You Need

A renewal invoice is mailed 30 to 45 days prior to the expiration date. It is the responsibility of the owner to contact BARC licensing department prior to expiration date if an invoice is not received.

  • Current rabies vaccination certificate signed by a veterinarian

  1. Log in using license, microchip, or notice reference number along with Person ID or last name.
  2. Complete or update all owner and animal information
  3. Upload required documents in .jpg format.

  5. Receive email receipt confirming purchase.
Renew in Person

Submit all paperwork in person to the BARC Animal Shelter:

Renew by Mail
  1. Cut off the bottom portion of the invoice and complete the portion required.
  2. Mail the remittance slip, required documents and payment to:

  3. Once payment is processed a receipt with a tag will be mailed to the owner.
