Master Electrician Registration
Any person or business who wishes to perform electrical work within the City of Houston must register with the Electrical Inspections section. Master Electricians may also register as the Master of Record for an electrical contractor who wishes to do business within the City of Houston.
All registered master electricians must be sure to keep documentation of their registration at the job site.
Effective April 1, 2022, per Section 404, The master electrician of record shall not have a city electrical contractor's registration for more than one contracting business.
Please call Electrical Inspections at 832.394.8860 when the contractor's registration is up for renewal. You will need to indicate which businesses will be dropped at that time.
To register as a Master Electrician within the City of Houston, you will need the following documents:
- A copy of your Master Electrician’s license granted by the State of Texas,
- A copy of your Contractor License granted by the State of Texas, and
- A notarized copy of form CE-1189 Electrical State License Registration and Renewal.

To register as a Master Electrician, please bring a copy of each of the following to our main office located at 1002 Washington Avenue, Houston, Texas 77002:
- A copy of your Master Electrician’s license granted by the State of Texas,
- A copy of your Contractor License granted by the State of Texas, and
- A notarized copy of form CE-1189 Electrical State License Registration and Renewal.

To renew your registration as a Master Electrician within the City of Houston, you will need the following documents:
