About

A residential repairs permit is required for repairs that involve the replacement and/or repair of existing structural members and other building elements.

After Approval

Permit must be kept on site until final approval is granted.

Conditions and Exceptions

This permit applies to work that does not require a plan review provided the materials match or are equivalent to the materials being repaired or replaced.

Apply Online Steps

Application must be completed and submitted online. 

  1. Log in or register for an iPermits account.
     
  2. Complete a building permit application in the iPermits portal.
     
  3. Pay any applicable fees associated with the application.
     
  4. After permit fees have been paid, you will receive an invitation from ProjectDox.
     
  5. Upload the Residential Repairs Spec List in the appropriate folder in ProjectDox. 
     
  6. Mark the assigned task "complete" to finalize your submission.
     
  7. Once the review is completed, you will receive an email from ProjectDox notifying you whether the plans were approved or if corrections are necessary. 
     
  8. If the plans are approved, you may proceed with the payment of the permit.
     
  9.  After payment is made, the permit will be emailed to the applicant.

Application must be reviewed by all applicable departments.

Inspection What you need

A copy of the permit and Residential Repairs Spec List must be on-site for inspection. If corrections are required, call 832-394-8840 for a reinspection.

Inspection Schedule by Phone Steps

To schedule inspections, contact the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) System at 713-222-9922. Trade inspections must be scheduled by the appropriate registered licensed contractor.

Inspection Schedule Online Steps

To schedule an inspection online:

1. Access our scheduling website through the link below.

2. Enter the appropriate project number into the field and click the Submit button.

3. Select the 13-Structuarl permit type from the drop-down box and click the Submit button.

4. Click on the "Request" link.

5. Select the type of inspection(s) that you wish to schedule by clicking on the text box besides it/them.

6. Leave the license number and scheduling PIN number text fields blank when scheduling structural inspections.

NOTE: Trade inspections must be scheduled by the appropriate registered licensed contractor.
