The 2026 National Electrical Code (NEC) was adopted by the State of Texas and became effective September 1, 2026.
The City of Houston has begun reviewing electrical plans in compliance with the 2026 NEC. All permit applications submitted on or after the state-mandated effective date will be reviewed for compliance with the new state minimum electrical code.
Specifically, all project numbers submitted after # 26076325 will be reviewed under the 2026 NEC.
