On December 1, 2021, City Council approved an ordinance updating the Houston Construction Code that includes a change to the requirements for how personnel hoists are approved. Personnel hoists will now require proof of an Elevator Contractor License by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
Starting April 1, 2022, when the updated Houston Construction Code goes into effect, a manufacturer, distributor, or agent who desires approval of a personnel hoist shall submit a completed application meeting the requirements of Section 3010.3, as well as proof of licensure by the State of Texas.
