Increased Energy Provisions for Residential Structures

Beginning February 1, 2013, the City of Houston Energy Code for residential structures will require that new buildings achieve 10% efficiency above the currently adopted Houston Energy Code

2013 Fee Increase

Starting January 1, 2013, building inspection, plan review, licenses and permit fees, including the administrative fee will be automatically increased by 2.4214% as required by Section 1-13 of the City of Houston Code of Ordinances.

City Council approved the adoption of the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code with Houston Amendments. The code will regulate one and two family dwellings and multi-family structures 3 stories in height or less.

Beginning June 1, 2012, the Code Enforcement Commercial Plan Review Section will require a copy of the completed Administration and Regulatory Affairs (ARA) Application for Alcohol and Alcohol Related Businesses that has been time stamped and accepted by ARA for new constructions and conversions/change of use to alcohol related business.

Modified Sidewalk Requirements in the Houston Building Code Immediately
Storm Detention Requirements for Single Family Residences

Among the updates to the 2009 Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM), the single family residence exemption in Chapter 9 was modified to limit the impervious cover to 75% before requiring stormwater detention on single family residential lots of 15,000 square feet in area or less.
